WrestleMania 28: CM Punk & Triple H To Wrestle?, Undertaker’s Opponent, More
08/03/2011 22:52Based on the success of the CM Punk angle and how it has unfolded due to what a source calls “long-term booking”, WWE will be booking more angles and storylines out ahead of time. Based on that, and considering that WrestleMania 28 is now roughly eight months away, WWE is looking to use that philosophy for their PPV. A source describes to me that the reason WWE is building up Mark Henry is to possibly have a match with the Undertaker at WrestleMania. The source told me exclusively that Vince McMahon has “cooled off” on some of the newer talent that aren’t getting over in his eyes in favor of giving the veterans such as Henry a much-deserved push.
As you can imagine, a lot of people backstage are upset that they are considering putting such a pivotal match by the Undertaker at one of his extremely rare appearances and putting him in the ring with Henry. The feeling amongst many is that the Undertaker only comes out of hiding once or twice a year and a match with Henry would be considered a “waste”. It should be noted that when Henry was getting a push back in 2006, WWE was seriously considering having Henry break Undertaker’s streak at WrestleMania 22 when they competed in a Casket match, but the company obviously reconsidered.
As for the obvious Triple H vs the Undertaker rematch — which was heavily hinted on RAW the night after WrestleMania 27 — it was the tentative plan following WrestleMania to have the two men compete once again at WrestleMania from Miami next year, but they are now considering having Hunter face CM Punk.
Regarding Daniel Bryan announcing on SmackDown! last week that he would be cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania, a source told me that while they are playing that angle on television, they don’t expect Bryan to hold onto the briefcase for that long. The source even insisted that it has been tossed around backstage that Bryan will be the first person to cash in the briefcase and lose. As always, these are very early plans right now and things can change in an instant. This is more of a snapshot of where WWE’s head is at this point.
