11/01/2011 17:28
The month of November plays host to important dates like Election Day, Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving. The WWE faithful know that this is also the season of Survivor Series, which promises intense action and fierce conflict. But there have been other unforgettable and startling events in the world of sports-entertainment that took place in the 11th month of the year. Whether it’s a lost championship, a surprise wedding, an animal attack or even a Kevin Federline appearance, it’s all par for the course over these 30 wild days. WWE.com takes a look back at some of these memorable moments from Novembers past.
Nov. 22, 1990: The debut of The Deadman
Introducing the world to his sinister persona and his infamous Tombstone Piledriver, The Undertaker made his first appearance more than 20 years ago. At Survivor Series 1990, Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Team had a mystery partner ... The Deadman. His fearsome power and tenacity were immediately evident as he eliminated Koko B. Ware and Dusty Rhodes. However, the prolonged beating he gave Rhodes continued outside the ring and he was counted out of the match. It was a fearsome first appearance, particularly for other Superstars on the WWE roster. Fast-forward 21 years, and The Phenom is still the most terrifying force in WWE.
Nov. 29, 1999: Stephanie McMahon and Triple H get hitched!
On a scandalous episode of Raw, Triple H interrupted Stephanie McMahon and Test’s in-ring wedding ceremony. Shocking the McMahon family and the millions of WWE fans watching, he showed a video of him marrying a semi-conscious Stephanie at a drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas. While Triple H referred to his new father-in-law as “dad,” Stephanie cried out to her now-husband,“I hate you!” For such an abnormal matrimony, the union between The Game and Stephanie would prove to be stronger than perhaps any other in squared circle history, as the power couple took hold of WWE for years to come, inside the ring and out.
Nov. 23, 1991: Snake bites Macho Man!
Some moments in sports-entertainment history are simply shocking. On Nov. 23, 1991, one of those moments occurred on Saturday morning television. Jake Roberts continued his ongoing rivalry with Randy Savage by taunting him from the ring. He goaded “Macho Man”away from the announcer’s table where “The Snake” brutally assaulted him, tied Savage to the ropes and induced a live cobra to bite him on the arm. Astonished fans across the world collectively gasped at one of the wildest and scariest moments in WWE history. Both Roberts and Savage had incredible and unforgettable confrontations throughout their careers, but this one ranks near the top for both.
Nov. 5, 2006: K-Fed interferes in “Champion of Champions” Match
At the first annual Cyber Sunday, the main event featured a showdown between three titleholders in the ring at once: WWE Champion John Cena, World Heavyweight Champion King Booker, and ECW Champion Big Show. Based on WWE fan voting on WWE.com, King Booker’s World Heavyweight Title was on the line. He was able to retain his prize when Kevin Federline attacked Cena, allowing King Booker to get the pin and the win.
Nov. 22, 2010: The Miz cashes in his Money in the Bank contract
After scaling the ladder to a career-changing victory at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event, The Miz was the proud holder of the briefcase and a guaranteed title match. He bided his time and cashed in his contract several months later, taking advantage of an exhausted and vulnerable Randy Orton, who had just defended his title against Wade Barrett. One Skull-Crushing Finale later, The Miz had shockingly defeated The Viper and won his first WWE Championship, stunning the WWE Universe on a cold November night.
Nov. 29, 2010: “King Sheamus” is crowned
In the 2010 King of the Ring tournament, Sheamus continued his rapid rise as one of the most successful Superstars in WWE. Pinning R-Truth in the opening round to move on in the competition, The Celtic Warrior looked like a man on a mission. On Nov. 29, he pinned Kofi Kingston to advance to the finals later that night, where he would defeat John Morrison to be crowned King of the Ring. Forever etching his name next to other immortal King of the Ring champions like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Triple H and Bret Hart, Sheamus reestablished the royal lineage of Irish rulers of old. “Long live the King!”
